Context and Meaning of the Title
Al-Wâqi'a means "The Inevitable Event". The opening of the chapter announces the irrevocable reality of the Resurrection and the Reckoning. In the Meccan context of opposition to the Message, it affirms divine justice and comforts believers who are tested.

1) The Resurrection and the three categories
- The Brought Near (al-muqarrabûn) : elite of sincerity and uprightness, in great proximity to Allah.
- The People of the Right (ashâb al-yamîn) : believers saved and blessed with favors.

2) Reward in Paradise
Gardens, accessible fruits, pure drink, honorable hospitality : images that illustrate a perfect felicity transcending our earthly categories (verses 27-40).
3) Punishment of Hell
A striking depiction describes the retribution of the deniers (verses 41-56), to exhort to repentance and reform.
4) Signs of Allah's Lordship
The surah reminds of His power through human creation, vegetation, water, fire and celestial bodies (verses 57-74) : everything depends on Allah, nothing escapes His will.
